About Dr. Lewinson

Dr. Rebecca Lewinson, PhD, C.Psych is a Clinical, Health, and Rehabilitation Psychologist with extensive training working with adults and seniors. She completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology and a graduate diploma in Health Psychology at York University, followed by a predoctoral residency at The Ottawa Hospital, with rotations at The Rehabilitation Centre and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.  

Dr. Lewinson’s clinical career has been shaped by her work in complex medical settings. She currently serves as a hospital-based psychologist with the Psychological Consultation Services for Inpatients (PCSI) at The Ottawa Hospital, providing specialized care to individuals facing serious health challenges, including cancer, chronic pain, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations, cardiac or respiratory illnesses, and long-term ICU or rehabilitation stays. Her background includes work across oncology, pain management, physical rehabilitation, and cardiac programs.  

Across hospital, community, and private practice settings, Dr. Lewinson has supported a diverse range of individuals navigating concerns such as trauma, depression, anxiety, stress, OCD, ADHD, insomnia, and relationship difficulties. Her clinical background spans both health psychology and trauma-focused care, allowing her to work effectively with clients facing complex emotional, psychological, and medical challenges across different life contexts. She has experience supporting individuals in high-stress and caregiving roles, including health care professionals and first responders, alongside adults or seniors seeking support for a wide range of mental health and life challenges.

Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Lewinson has made significant contributions to the broader field of psychology and health care. She served for five years as Editorial Manager of the Canadian Journal of Pain and was awarded the Canadian Psychological Association’s Academic Excellence Award for her PhD dissertation. She also recently co-authored a self-help anxiety management workbook at The Ottawa Hospital for patients undergoing transplantation and cellular therapy and is in the process of adapting this workbook for the general inpatient population. 

Her work is grounded in evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Pain Reprocessing Therapy, mindfulness, schema, and compassion-focused interventions. She tailors treatment to each client, with an emphasis on providing collaborative, practical, and empowering care.

Dr. Lewinson is known for combining rigorous clinical expertise with warmth and compassion. Whether working with someone managing a medical condition, recovering from trauma, or navigating everyday life challenges, she helps clients build resilience, confidence, and a greater sense of control in their lives.
